“I’ve been coming to Peace since 2001 when I met my wife, Jennifer at a Lutheran bible camp. I came to visit her and her family and, shall we say, was hooked. I grew up as a pastor’s son and so was all around the churches my father served quite a bit of the time. I have served on property boards, worship leadership capacities, youth groups, youth trips, youth conventions both National and Regional, and have been involved in church music in a variety of roles. I work at a retirement/assisted living community in Bonney Lake, WA. My hobbies include mountaineering, gardening, working on my inlaw’s farm, sports, anything outside, and spending quality time with my family. I have one son, Kellen who is active in the church in many capacities, including the quilters due to his Nanny’s influence. I am passionate about helping those in need and working with and through the Holy Spirit, which can arise at anytime. I also like to focus on community involvement both external and internal community, youth participation in the church community, outdoor ministry (seeing God in the environment), and the “hidden” tasks that are required for churches to function that might not always be realized by others.”

Vice President: Leigh Ann Mahaffie     (253) 262-1957     mahaffla@hotmail.com

I am a high school math teacher who loves to quilt, read and cook. I have been a member of Peace for nearly 20 years. I met my husband Tim here, and am mother to three. I’ve been involved in a variety of activities including youth, choir, council, finance, adult and family education. I love Peace. It has given me my family, friends, and it is truly my church home.

“I’ve been a member of Peace for over 20 years.  My husband Pat and I have been active in a wide variety of church activities.  I am currently a Wedding Coordinator, Worship Assistant, Choir Member, and serve on the Adult Education,  Personnel, and Women’s Retreat Committees in addition to being Secretary.  I think that one of Peace’s strong points is it’s commitment to social justice issues, and it’s willingness to get involved and help out those less fortunate through programs like our “Lunch With A Friend” or Habitat for Humanity.  Join us, we love to meet new people!”

Treasurer: Glenn Wilson      (253) 863-1493       popspoems@comcast.net

Gerri and I have been members about 10 years.  We have 2 children, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, unfortunately none of them live close by.. My passion (besides Gerri) is 4 wheeling.  Prior to retirement I worked as a Commercial Loan Officer for various banks in Montana and Washington for 45 years.  During my time at Peace I have served on the council, the property committee and the finance committee.  Additionally I am currently the chairman of the church’s Endowment committee.  Gerri and I love being at Peace and have developed lasting friendships, as a result.

I’ve been given a second chance to make Peace Lutheran my family and home church. As a child I was baptized in Astoria Oregon at a Peace Lutheran Church. As an adult my family moved to Washington for job opportunities and here I raised my son, Scott. My son actually chose Peace when he was 9 years old and he was confirmed here. When we wanted to worship together again, it only seemed natural to return to Peace. I work full time for Valley Medical Center and have been there almost 27 years. I am an RHIT (registered health information technician) and work for the medical records department which these days is known as the Health Information Department. Two years ago we were asked to work from home, and I enjoy it very much and so does my dog Nyla. Without a commute or children at home I found I have some spare time so I asked God to use this time for me to do His work. I feel my answer came with the nomination to be a part of the council here at Peace. I accepted it with gratefulness and look forward to working with the council and congregation to help our church be an even more warm and welcoming place. A place where our community will want to come and become a part of our growing, loving family. I would also like to inspire and/or mentor anyone that wants a more personal relationship with Jesus by sharing my life experience. I feel a calling to help show others how to make the most of their time, service, and caring, and how to be a true reflection of God.

I have three adult daughters (two son-in-laws) and two young adult granddaughters.  They are the pride of my life and are always looking out for me and are there when I need them.  Can’t beat that!  The most recent addition to our family is a very healthy and growing great grandson.  He’s darling and is going to make us all proud one day. After working in the banking industry for 34 years, I retired in 2004.  My retirement years have been full.  In 2007 I moved to Nevada but returned in the fall of 2009 and moved into the small mobile home right next to where I’d lived for 20+ years here in Puyallup. For the last three years I’ve concentrated on “redoing” the interior walls and carpeting of my humble little abode.  If I can’t live in the Southwest, I decided to decorate the inside with colors and objects from the desert that I’d acquired while there.  Now I’m satisfied with the way it looks and am able to devote more time to helping others when needs arise. I joined Peace Lutheran Church in the spring of 2011 after my dear friends, Gerri and Glenn Wilson, invited me to attend church with them.  Smartest thing I ever did too!  I love everything about Peace;  Pastor Kempe, the Bold Women who participate in the Ladies Aid group and the wonderful experience of Tearing Through the Torah with Pastor Little and all those who attend his bible study classes.  I’m looking forward to experiencing my new post as a Council member of Peace. I’m also a member of the Rotary Club of Sumner.  We meet at lunch time, once a week, for our meetings.  Since Rotary’s motto is Service Above Self, I make every effort to be involved with the fund raisers they promote for the benefit of others.  Now that I’m not working, I find it necessary to keep a calendar.  This is essential for me because, along with my own appointments I help a very dear friend get to her’s due to her loss of eye sight and other age related difficulties. I look forward to many more years of attendance at Peace and spending time with the wonderful friends I’ve found there. God is good and helps me in so many ways.  He’s the light of my life.  He restores my sole on a daily basis.  May His love and grace be with you all.

My wife Karla and I have been members here at Peace since March 1995. We have two children Jakob 9 and Hannah 6. In the years here at Peace I have lead the High School Youth group with Karla, taught Sunday school, lead confirmation groups and served on church council. Currently I serve on the property, children education and executive committees. I also play guitar Sunday mornings for worship with Cornerstones. We have a great church community here at Peace and I hope to see it continue to build on faith and grow with grace.
